Biorhythm
What is Biorhythm?
Biorhythm is an early-20th-century theory that proposes human performance fluctuates along three fixed sine-wave cycles that start at birth and repeat for life. Each cycle swings between a high peak and a low trough, crossing zero on "critical days" when its influence is least stable.
Biorhythm is a pseudoscientific framework — it is not a clinical or astrological discipline. It is included here as a self-observation tool: a simple phase model users often find useful for reflecting on their own energy, moods, and mental stamina over the month.
The Three Cycles
Each cycle runs on a fixed period counted in days from the date of birth. All cycles start at zero on the day of birth and cross zero again at the midpoint of each period.
| Cycle | Length | Governs |
|---|---|---|
| Physical | 23 days | Stamina, coordination, strength, immune resilience. |
| Emotional | 28 days | Mood, sensitivity, creativity, social openness. |
| Intellectual | 33 days | Focus, memory, analytical reasoning, decision-making. |
Reading a Biorhythm Chart
Each cycle's value on a given day is expressed as a percentage from -100% to +100% — with sign omitted in the UI (so both +72% and -72% display as "72%").
- Peak (near +100%): The cycle is expressed strongly. You are at your best in that domain.
- Trough (near -100%): Energy in that domain is low; conservation and rest are appropriate.
- Zero-crossing (critical day): The cycle transitions between positive and negative. These days tend to feel unstable or reactive in that domain.
Critical Days
A critical day is any date on which one of the cycles crosses zero. On a triple-critical day all three cycles cross at once — rare, but worth noting.
- A physical critical day is a common day to feel clumsy, tired, or accident-prone.
- An emotional critical day may bring volatile moods or heightened sensitivity.
- An intellectual critical day is not the day to make your biggest decisions.
How to Use It
- Compare, don't predict. Biorhythm has no empirical validation as a forecasting tool. Use it as a journaling aid — notice whether your lived experience matches the cycle on critical or peak days.
- Stack it with astrology. Many users pair biorhythm with transits: a physical trough coinciding with a Mars-square-Mars transit is a clear "take it easy" signal, even if either tool alone might be dismissed.
- Let it fade into the background. It is not a diagnostic tool. It is a rhythm overlay.
